THE UNEXPLORED CHILEAN FJORDS

Put the verbs in brackets in the CORRECT TENSE.
Be careful, you must use different verbal tenses.

Puerto Montt (represent) the gateway to the world-famous fjord country of southwestern Chile. The beauty of this rugged, deeply incised coast has been compared with that of Norway, New Zealand and Alaska.

The last 2 million years of Earth history (divide) into the Pleistocene Epoch and the Holocene Epoch. This time (mark) by four world-wide glacial events which were characterized by numerous individual pulses of ice advance and retreat. The last major ice advance (culminate) 18,000 years ago.

Glaciers (originate) in areas of thick snow accumulation. Layers of buried snow are slowly converted to ice because of compaction and recrystallization. When the ice (reach) a critical thickness, it (begin) to flow downhill as a glacier because of the pull of gravity. Ice (flow) downhill within pre-existing valleys, and acts like a giant bull-dozer, (push) and (erode) rock and soil. Glaciers straighten pre-existing stream valleys, leaving them with a characteristic U-shaped cross section.
