Tres vacaciones diferentes

Esta sección, dividida en tres diálogos, presenta diferentes formas de vacacionar. Escúchalos con atención y trata de repetirlos luego.

Linda:

So, what are you planning to do for your vacation, Judy?

Bueno, ¿que estás planeando hacer durante tus vacaciones, Judy?

Judy:

Oh, I'm doing something really exotic this year. You know, I went to the wild last year and just stayed on a beach for two weeks. This year I'm going white-water rafting.

Oh, voy a a hacer algo exótico este año. Sabes, fui a la selva
el año pasado y simplemente
me quedé en una playa dos semanas. Este año voy a navegar en balsa por los rápidos. 

Linda:

Oh, that sounds great!! But, what is it exactly?

Oh, ¡¡parece fantástico!! Pero, ¿qué es exactamente?

Judy:

Oh, would you know, it's in Colorado, they have abyss trips down the rapids, the water gets really rough... 
I think it will be really exciting. Oh, I'm doing some rock climbing, too.

Oh, mira, esto queda en Colorado, allí tienen viajes de inmersión por los rápidos, el agua se pone realmente brava... Creo que va a ser muy emocionante. Ah, voy a escalar rocas también..

Linda:

And you call that "a vacation"? 

¿Y llamas a eso "estar de vacaciones"?

Linda:

What are your plans for the summer, Paul?

¿Cuáles son tus planes para el verano, Paul?

Paul:

Oh, I'd love to go and lie on a beach somewhere. But I need to save some money for school. I think I'll stay home and get a job.

Oh, me encantaría ir a tirarme a una playa en alguna parte. Pero necesito ahorrar dinero para la escuela. Creo que me quedaré en casa y buscaré un trabajo.

Linda:

That doesn't sound like much fun!!

¡¡Eso no parece ser muy divertido!!

Paul:

Oh, it won't be too bad. Some of my friends are going to work this summer, too, so we'll do some parties in on the weekends.

Oh, no es tan lamentable. Algunos de mis amigos van a trabajar este verano también, 
así que haremos algunas 
fiestas los fines de semana.

Ted:

Have you planned anything for the summer, Brenda?

¿Has hecho algunos planes para el verano, Brenda?

Brenda:

Yeah. I'm going to work the first month and save some money. Then I'm going to go down to Mexico for six weeks to stay with my sister. She's working in Guadalajara. She says it's really interesting there. So,
I want to go and see what it is like. It will also give me a chance to practise my Spanish. I'm really looking forward to it!! 

Así es. Voy a trabajar durante
el primer mes y ahorrar dinero. Luego voy a ir a México durante seis semanas a quedarme con mi hermana. Ella está trabajando en Guadalajara. Dice que es realmente interesante allí. De modo que quiero ir a ver cómo es el lugar. Esto me dará también una oportunidad para practicar mi español. ¡¡Estoy esperando ansiosamente ese momento!!

to the wild = to some unhabited place (a la selva, a un lugar remoto)
rough = turbulent (agitada, turbulenta)
to lie / lay / lain  / lying (acostarse, tirarse)
to save / saved / saved / saving (ahorrar dinero)
not too bad = not regrettable (no tan lamentable)
go down to Mexico: Los norteamericanos suelen utilizar down (hacia abajo) cuando se desplazan geográficamente hacia el sur.
what it is like = what Guadalajara looks like (cómo es Guadalajara)
