The past - Part 2

 

 

 

 

THREE POINTS TO REMEMBER

This is a good chance to remind you about the following points:

1

The past simple focuses on past time; the present perfect focuses on present time.

2

The past simple indicates that there is a time gap between the past and the present; the present perfect connects the past to the present.

3

Verbs in the past simple are used with past-time adverbials; verbs in the present perfect cannot be used with past-time adverbials.

Below, you will find three activities to practise this grammar.

 

The past (I)

 

ACTIVITY 202: Past simple or present perfect? What is the name of each tense being described here? Choose the best alternatives from the menus. Then check the answers.

It is used to express an action which happened in the recent past, when no time reference is given.

It is used to express an action which happened in the past, when a definite time reference is given.
