Natural and man-made disasters

Disasters: definitions

ACTIVITY 215: Match the following disaster definitions with the disaster names choosing the appropriate alternatives from the menus. Then check the answers.

Violent destructive windstorm characterized by
a funnel-shaped cloud.

2.

The rising of a body of water and its overflowing
onto normally dry land.

3.

Shaking and vibration at the surface of the earth.

4.

Sudden pouring out of fumes, lava and volcanic material.

A slide of large masses of snow and ice and mud down a mountain.

6.

A temporary shortage of rainfall.

 

Disasters: causes

ACTIVITY 216: Generally speaking man-made disasters can be prevented, and natural ones can be predicted to a greater or lesser extent with modern technology. But in a man-made disaster, natural causes may also have played a part, and in a natural disaster, man may also have some responsibility for causing it.

In this activity you have to copy/paste or paint/drag the names of the disasters from the box into the appropriate blank spaces. Then check the answers.
