Una franquicia (franchising) puede
definirse como un sistema de negocio en el cual una empresa franquiciadora
(franchisor) vende a un franquiciado (franchisee) el derecho
a operar comercialmente con el sistema, formato y marca ya establecida en
el mercado por el franquiciador. A tal efecto, la empresa franquiciadora
entrega al franquiciado un manual de operaciones (operations
manual) que debe ser cumplimentado en todas sus partes.
Como parte del contrato o acuerdo de
franquicia (franchise agreement) el franquiciado paga una suma de
dinero inicial, conocida como cuota de franquicia (franchise o front
